Eligibility Requirements

General requirements

• Work Experience: At least 3 years of full-time experience as an active business owner/manager or 4 years as a senior manager in the past 10 years.
• Education: Minimum high school education (Canadian equivalent).
• Language Proficiency: Minimum CLB/NCLC level 4 in all four skills.
  • Accepted tests:CELPIP General, IELTS General Training, PTE Core, TEF Canada, or TCF Canada.
• Net Worth: $300,000 in personal assets
• Minimum Investment: CAD $100,000 of your own equity (yours and/or spouse/common-law partner’s) into the business

Business Requirements

• The business must be for-profit, generate active income, and provide economic benefit to Alberta.
• Physical storefront/location required in a participating rural community.
• New businesses must create at least 1 full-time job (non-family Canadian citizen/PR) for at least 6 months; more jobs = more points.
• For buying an existing business: 100% ownership transfer required.
• For starting a new business: Minimum 51% ownership (remaining partners must be Canadian citizens/PRs).

Step 1: Review the AAIP Terms and Conditions

• Operate the business for at least 12 months and meet all agreement conditions.

Step 7: Submit Final Report & Receive Nomination

• After meeting all conditions (typically after 12+ months of operation), submit the Final Report for Nomination with supporting business documents (financials, job proof, etc.).
• If approved: AAIP issues a nomination certificate and notifies IRCC.
  • Apply for permanent residence through IRCC (within 6 months of nomination).
  • You can request a one-time nomination extension if needed ($150 fee).
• If declined: Receive a letter (reconsideration possible for errors).
